EIPC Summer Conference 2009, St Michael 18th – 19th June
29.06.2009
The EIPC Summer Conference 2009, one of the four annual meeting organised by the European Institute for Printed Circuit, EIPC, whose directive committee SOMACIS is member of, has just closed in St Michael (AustriA). During the time EIPC Conferences had become events of primary importance and interest for everyone involved in the market of printed circuit boards.
Conceptually related to previous Winter Conference in Amsterdam, this new event was focused on "Finding solutions for the troubled PCB industry - turning challenges into opportunities".
The conference began with a welcome by the EIPC's Chairman, Rex Rozario of Graphic plc, who gave an overview of the conference programme and then moved on to a series of themed sessions.
The first, chaired by Konrad Wundt, was entitled "Business models for PCB success in Europe" and had a significant contribution by Giacomo Angeloni, SOMACIS pcb industries R&D Manager and EIPC Vice Chairman, with his paper "Strategies for survival".
The survival strategy adopted by SOMACIS had involved partnering with Graphic plc in the UK and the establishment of some production in China via a new plant called DSG, in Dongguan City. In Europe, SOMACIS was the second most profitable PCB manufacturer and a new plant, dedicated to prototyping and High Tech QTA production, had also recently been set up in South of Italy (Manfredonia) with some funding support from the European Commission.
The secret of survival, in this moment, is to make a group and have a common strategy. Within the current strategies of SOMACIS pcb industries they are M&A of PCB companies in US, Europe and Asia.
